![]() ![]() Then of course the inevitable happened - the laptop wouldn't load an update and began to run like a dead wombat.ĭetermined to find a Mac logger, I tried the usual suspects and eventually arrived at RUMlog. Having moved to Mac some time ago, I kept a Windows laptop just for logging and radio-related uses. Easy to learn, easy to use, and powerful functionality makes RUMLog a winner. RUMLog's intuitive layout, effortless LOTW/eQSL integration, QRZ lookup, Search functions, etc., are easy on the eyes and brain. ![]() I much prefer it to the popular MacLogger. RUMLogNG is very well designed/coded software for DXers. Being excellent software, I't was a tough act to follow. Previously I logged with DXKeeper, from the DXLab suite. I've been using RUMlogNG daily for about a month now. Thank you DL2RUM! 73Įarlier 5-star review posted by ZS1DX on RUMlog is available in the App Store, and updates from the App Store - the way serious Mac software should be. But RUMlog is, for me at least, more functional for the DX'er. MacLogger has more eye-candy, is prettier. I had high hopes for MacLoggerDX, but found the LoTW, ClubLog integration, award tracking, QSL tracking and "all the info I need at a glance" not as useful as in RUMlog. On the Windows platform I prefer DXlab, albeit somewhat clunky and convoluted. Also own and have used AC Log as well as MacLoggerDX. I own and have used DX4WIN for many years. This clip is a short tour of RUMLogNG 3.2 connected to the Icom IC-7.RUMlogNG is my favourite logging software. Before shelling out $150 I'd LOVE to know if this will work. Even if you don't own a Mac you'll want to see this, especially if you own an Icom 7300. K1GQ, author of Skookum does not have a Flex to test with and says that since he uses RS232 and does not think that the Flex can be read for band changes or provide radio control. I know that Flex uses the TS-2000 commands set and Skookum does support that as does RumlogNG which would also be acceptable. I'd guess that smartCAT assigning ports for the radio ought to be seen by Skookum or RumlogNG. I haven’t used macloggerdx longer than what the trial gave me, so I can’t compare in-depth, but I chose to go with RUMlogNG and absolutely love it. The real issues are that Parallels 15 roasts my battery, and the new version does not seem any better. I downloaded macloggerdx and after a few minutes realized that it seems to do over 95 of the same things as RUMlogNG, but for a hefty price. Also, running Bootcamp/W10/N1MM+ is a mess because my brain has 15+ years of muscle memory with the Mac keyboard and shortcuts so using W10 is super slow and I'm constantly locking the screen, not getting cut/paste to work, taking screenshots that do nothing and this is the just the start of my gripe list.ġ. 2012 Mac Mini that can run bootcamp just fine but is short on processor for a good Parallels setup.Ģ. If seems like smartSDR/Mac, Skookum or RumlogNG **should** work!! 2020 MBP 13" 4 port that can run any configuration just fine. Hi Mark, I have many of the same questions. I went ahead and purchased the SmartSDR Mac license and I'm liking it, a lot. It's runs so well on my Mid 2015 iMac (note I have 24GB ram). I have tried Parallels on my Mac laptop multiples times on various models. I’d like to try to use Skookumlogger but it only supports CAT via serial, unlike rumlogNG which supports CAT via TCP. All of them have issues with Windows 10/SmartSDR running smoothly, consistently, and of course the battery drain issue. ![]() I reached out to the developer of Skookumlogger, but he seems reticent to support Flex either directly (via direct TCP connection to the radio server) or indirectly (by adding support for CAT via TCP) because of a grievance of. one thing I don't care for is the fan on the MacBook laptop running in turbo mode - it's loud and distracting and I know that's impacting the batter. So, I tend to use SmartSDR for Windows 10 my desktop.īut that's the issue now. How to chart a path from WIndows 10 N1MM/SmartSDR to Mac SmartSDR and ? what contesting logger. I'm willing to invest the time to learn a new logging tool but I don't want to have to hack code or add hardware (ie Winkeyer) to my setup to work. So I'm hoping this will the beginning of a conversation on this topic. ![]()
